Twitter Screenshot App for Chrome
Right-click to capture X/Twitter posts with automatic AI analysis, metadata extraction, and cloud sync
SmartShots is a Chrome extension that captures Twitter/X screenshots with a simple right-click. Every tweet is automatically analyzed by AI to extract text, generate categories and tags, preserve the source URL, and sync to your cloud account.
How It Works
The SmartShots Chrome extension integrates directly into your browser's context menu. When you're viewing Twitter/X, simply right-click on any tweet or image and select "Save to SmartShots" from the menu. The screenshot is captured instantly and sent to our AI processing pipeline.
For more control, you can capture custom selections by pressing Ctrl + Shift + S (or clicking the SmartShots extension icon). This launches crop mode, allowing you to select exactly what you want to capture—perfect for grabbing entire Twitter threads, multiple tweets, or just the parts that matter.
Unlike basic screenshot tools that just save an image file, SmartShots performs intelligent analysis on every capture:
- OCR Text Extraction: All visible text in the tweet is extracted and made searchable, including the tweet content, username, timestamp, and any text visible in images.
- Automatic Categorization: AI analyzes the content and assigns up to 3 relevant categories (e.g., "Technology", "News", "Product Launch").
- Smart Tagging: Generates up to 10 contextual tags based on the tweet's meaning, not just keyword matching.
- URL Preservation: Captures and stores the exact URL where the screenshot was taken, allowing you to return to the original tweet later.
- Source App Detection: Automatically identifies the content as coming from Twitter/X.
- Description Generation: Creates a brief summary of what the tweet is about for quick reference.
All of this happens automatically in seconds. The processed screenshot, complete with all extracted metadata, is synced to your SmartShots account where you can access it from any device.
Right-Click Context Menu
The SmartShots option appears in your browser's right-click menu when viewing any image or content on X/Twitter:

Why Use a Twitter Screenshot App?
Social Media Research & Journalism
Journalists and researchers need reliable ways to archive social media posts before they're deleted or accounts are suspended. SmartShots captures the complete context of a tweet including the timestamp and URL, creating a permanent record. The AI-powered search makes it easy to find specific tweets later when you're writing articles or conducting analysis.
Content Curation & Inspiration
Content creators and marketers use Twitter as a source of inspiration. Instead of bookmarking tweets (which can disappear), SmartShots creates a searchable library of interesting posts. The automatic categorization helps organize ideas by topic, and the semantic search lets you find "that tweet about product launches" even if you don't remember the exact wording.
Competitive Intelligence
Track competitor announcements, product launches, and customer feedback on Twitter. SmartShots builds a searchable archive of competitive intelligence that you can reference during planning meetings. The URL preservation means you can always link back to the original source.
Academic Research & Digital Humanities
Researchers studying social media trends, misinformation, or online discourse need ways to archive content that don't rely on API access (which can be restricted or expensive). SmartShots provides a simple, reliable archiving method with the added benefit of AI-powered analysis and organization.

Find Any Tweet, Instantly
SmartShots uses vector-based semantic search, which means you can find tweets based on their meaning, not just exact keyword matches. Search for "product announcements" and find relevant tweets even if they don't contain those exact words. Filter by category, tag, or date range to narrow down results.
Because all text is extracted via OCR, even tweets with text embedded in images are fully searchable. This is particularly useful for screenshots of longer threads or tweets with important information in attached images.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this better than using Twitter's bookmark feature?
Bookmarks disappear if the tweet is deleted or the account is suspended. SmartShots captures a permanent image with all the context preserved. The AI analysis also makes content more discoverable than Twitter's basic search.
Can I export my Twitter screenshot archive?
Yes. You can download individual screenshots or export your entire archive of images.
Does this violate Twitter's terms of service?
No. SmartShots is a screenshot tool that captures what's visible in your browser, similar to pressing Print Screen on your keyboard. It doesn't use Twitter's API or scrape data. However, you should always respect copyright and fair use principles when capturing and using others' content.
How much does it cost?
The SmartShots Chrome extension is free to install. You'll need a SmartShots account to use it. We offer a free tier to get started, plus paid plans based on your usage needs. See our pricing page for details.
